Purkyňova 105, Brno 61200

ORGANIZERS
The Metals Working Group of the Commission of Conservators-Restorers of the Czech Association of Museums and Galleries in cooperation with the Methodological Center for Conservation of the Technical Museum in Brno.

DATE AND VENUE
The professional seminar will take place on May 21, 2026, at the Technical Museum in Brno, lecture hall, 4th floor, Purkyňova 105, Brno–Královo Pole.

SEMINAR GOAL
The seminar follows on from last year’s event, which presented and discussed approaches to the conservation and restoration of metal artifacts with regard to current possibilities and trends in methods of material and technological research. Attention was focused in particular on compliance with conservation principles and procedures that do not result in undesirable alteration or loss of the information and data examined on the history, origin, age of the object, etc. This requirement is conditional on close cooperation between conservators-restorers and archaeologists, anthropologists, paleobotanists, chemists, and other scientists, as well as constant monitoring of developments and possibilities in various analyses. As this topic is very broad, connecting a number of scientific and craft disciplines, and is so professionally desirable, the organizers have decided to continue with a second year of the seminar. The aim of the seminar is therefore to communicate the issue at hand using case studies of the examination and treatment of metal artifacts from practice, to point out the risks of older conservation approaches, the possibilities of modern analytical methods and the correct interpretation of their results, as well as the principles of handling objects during examination and sampling.
