Arte-fakt, an association for the protection of historical monuments, is preparing a conference to mark the 20th anniversary of its founding, which will offer not only a review of the past two decades, but also a look into the future in the field of restoration, technology, and monument preservation. The two-day meeting will take place at the Valtice State Castle on March 26–27, 2026.
TOPICS
- Twenty years of development in the field of restoration and monument preservation: a retrospective look at changes in methods, approaches, and technologies.
- Case studies: successes and failures in restoration practice: examples of projects that highlight not only successful procedures, but also mistakes, dead ends, and lessons learned from less successful interventions.
- Ethical and methodological issues in contemporary restoration: critical reflection on decision-making processes, conservation interventions, and responsibility towards monuments.
- New technologies in cultural heritage care and the future of the field: the use of digital tools and innovative technologies in documentation, analysis, and restoration; reflections on long-term trends, changes in the institutional framework, and the outlook for the next 20 years.
- Sharing experiences and intergenerational dialogue: open exchange of know-how, shifts in professional education, and the involvement of younger generations of experts.
