We are pleased to share an invitation to the workshop “THE ART OF PAPER CONSERVATION” – for employees of cultural institutions and colleagues from the Museum of Eastern Bohemia in Hradec Králové. The May series of workshops has been expanded to include a workshop for the general public.

DESCRIPTION AND GOAL OF THE WORKSHOP
For employees of cultural institutions
- During the workshop, you will learn the proper procedures for handling damaged paper documents. You will learn how to properly clean them of dust, adhesive tape, and other debris. You will practice retouching small tears and reinforcing weakened or missing areas on documents. Part of the workshop will also be devoted to the basic principles of preventive conservation—how to properly disinfect and store documents.
- You will leave not only with new skills but also with a better understanding of how paper ages and how careful handling can help extend its lifespan.
- The workshop also includes a short lecture on the restoration of paper documents.
- The workshop is intended for staff at cultural institutions and archives, as well as for those who wish to delve deeper into the subject of paper document restoration.
For the Public
- You’ll not only gain new skills, but also a better understanding of how paper ages and how careful handling can help extend its lifespan.
- The workshop is open to anyone interested—no prior experience is necessary. It focuses on simple, safe, and accessible methods you can use to care for family documents, old photographs, books, and prints.
SPEAKER
Romana Tošovská, B.A., Museum of Eastern Bohemia in Hradec Králové
- She graduated from the Institute of Restoration and Conservation Techniques in Litomyšl, o.p.s., with a specialization in the restoration and conservation of paper, bookbindings, and documents.
- A restorer of paper, bookbindings, and documents with 24 years of experience in various institutions specializing in restoration (East Bohemian Museum in Pardubice, Museum of Puppetry Cultures in Chrudim, Prague City Museum, National Library of the Czech Republic). She holds restoration licenses issued by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
- She has experience restoring book collections of old prints and manuscripts, as well as rare parchment documents bearing wax seals.
