Škoda-Sanos. The story of the challenging restoration of a prototype articulated trolleybus from the collection of the Technical Museum in Brno
14.9.2026
From 9 September 2026, those interested in historic vehicles will be able to view a new small-scale exhibition entitled ‘Škoda-Sanos: The story of the challenging restoration of an articulated trolleybus prototype from the collection of the Technical Museum in Brno’. The exhibition not only presents the restoration process of the Škoda-Sanos trolleybus prototype from the collection of the Technical Museum in Brno – the first example of a Czechoslovak high-capacity articulated trolleybus – but also traces the long journey leading to its creation in the early 1980s.
One of the two Škoda-Sanos S 200 trolleybus prototypes was put into trial operation in Zlín (then known as Gottwaldov) in June 1983 under registration number 70. It was later assigned the new registration number 301. It was taken out of service in November 1994 and, as a unique prototype, offered to the collections of the Technical Museum in Brno. Between 2019 and 2024, it underwent extensive conservation and restoration work on the scale of a general overhaul, during which it was also restored to its original appearance as far as possible. The extensive conservation and restoration work was supported by the grant programme ‘Integrated System for the Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage’ (ISO III–D) of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, specifically the sub-programme ‘Preventive protection against adverse environmental influences’ and ‘Extensive restoration of collection items from collections registered in the CES MK ČR’, as well as from the budget of the Technical Museum in Brno.
The public will be able to experience a ride on this unique vehicle on Saturday 26 September 2026, when the Technical Museum in Brno, in collaboration with Brno City Transport, will put this working exhibit into service on trolleybus route no. 32.
