The monograph by a broad collective of specialists, *Conservation and Restoration of Metals: Protection of Cultural Heritage Objects Made of Metals and Their Alloys*, is undoubtedly one of the most significant publications in the field of the protection of collection items and historical metal artifacts. This claim is supported not only by the accolades the publication has received but, above all, by the enduring interest in this book—which has been out of print for many years—demonstrated by the professional community and the young, up-and-coming generation of conservator-restorers, curators, depository managers, and other museum professionals, as well as by contemporary artists and other interested parties. The book, with an impressive scope of nearly 650 color pages, was published in 2011 in collaboration with the Technical Museum in Brno and the Commission of Conservator-Restorers of Czech Association of Museums and Galleries in a limited edition of 1,000 copies. Its content consists of seven separate sections that clearly and comprehensively introduce readers to the development of metal production, processing technologies, and the use of metals—and, in particular, to the issues surrounding their conservation, restoration, and preservation within the context of memory institutions and cultural heritage sites. This publication, featuring writings by nearly thirty authors (from various professional fields ranging from museology and historic preservation to academia and research), underwent a thorough peer-review process by twelve specialists, and its long-term substantive quality has also been proven in everyday practice. As part of this second edition—which aims to meet the demand from individuals as well as newly established organizations and educational institutions focused on cultural heritage preservation—it was possible, more than twenty years after work on the book began, to partially revise and update its content while maintaining the original scope and concept.
