This department provides quick aid when saving cultural heritage objects in emergencies such as fires, floods, industrial accidents, vandalism etc., through both consultations and direct participation in first aid actions concerning objects at risk, providing detention storage areas or preservation through subsequent treatment such as desiccation and sterilization of water affected objects. In the standard period (i.e. out of crisis events), the department participates in the organization of MCC activities concerning investigation and protection of cultural heritage by application of the respective instrumentation and technical equipment, i.e. carrying out disinfection or sterilization of objects affected by biological pests, etc.
- Desiccation and sterilization department comprises a drying chamber (lyophilisation – vacuum freeze drying) including a freezing box; and the sterilization chamber which on the basis of ethylene oxide sterilizes and disinfects various materials. The chamber is primarily appropriate to treat collections from paper.
