- Area name: II. Conservation
Developing comprehensive interdisciplinary and sustainable care for cultural objects based on knowledge of historical craft techniques, production processes, and materials, using advanced research technologies, including scientific approaches to conservation and restoration. - Sub-goals:
- To develop and verify gentle conservation procedures for cleaning and stabilizing materials predominantly represented in mixed museum collections that are compatible with original historical craft and production processes.
- To optimize procedures for non-invasive or minimally destructive material and technological research of cultural heritage objects.
- Develop and verify preventive conservation processes with an emphasis on the sustainability of procedures for regulating microclimatic parameters of the environment, packaging and storage materials, including improving the protection of museum collections in emergency situations.

- Area name: II. Conservation
This area focuses on the development of systematic care for collection items and their conservation and restoration using modern scientific methods. This area fulfills the mission of the Methodological Center for Conservation, which is an organizational unit of the TMB and also one of the museum centers established by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. - Sub-goals:
- To develop and verify gentle cleaning and stabilization procedures for selected materials predominantly represented in mixed museum collections, i.e., metals and their alloys with various surface treatments, as well as plastic objects, which represent a fundamental phenomenon of 20th-century collections.
- Optimize procedures for non-invasive or minimally destructive examination of collection items based on advanced X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) methods.
- Improve the monitoring and processing of data on microclimatic parameters in the environment where collection items are stored, including the optimization of conditions and their protection against fire risks in depositories, exhibitions, and technical monuments of the TMB.
