Instructions to authors

The journal Forum for Conservator-Restorers accepts for publication papers and poster presentations from the Conference of Conservator-Restorers, as well as other texts that may not be directly presented at the conference, including informative articles, literature reviews, presentations of departments, service offerings, etc.

  • General focus of the journal Forum for Conservator-Restorers

Materials and technology surveys
Conservation and restoration interventions
New methods and technologies in the field of conservation-restoration and protection of cultural heritage

Papers intended for the peer-reviewed section must be based on original scientific research or must be original review papers. Documentation of conservation and restoration interventions are also accepted for the peer-reviewed part if they apply innovative technological procedures and methods or if they are interventions with methodological overlap (they are not routine conservation and restoration procedures). Texts for other parts of the publication (non-peer-reviewed papers, reviews, etc.) do not have to meet these criteria.

The author declares that the paper to be published in the FCR has not been previously published in any other publication (except internal reports of the author’s institution), nor is it being prepared for publication in another publication. The copyright and licensing terms are concluded by implication, i.e. at the moment when the author sends his/her Work to the Editor. No written or oral contract is concluded in such a case. By submitting his/her Work, the author confirms that he/she acknowledges and agrees to these terms and conditions. Student Work may only be published with the written consent of the supervisor.

Submissions will be reviewed by the editorial board. Two referee opinions will be prepared for the papers to be included in the peer-reviewed part of the journal, and the authors will be informed of them immediately. Authors will be given time to complete their texts if necessary. The peer review process is mutually anonymous unless the author or reviewer explicitly requests otherwise.

Title – brief and concise, possibly subtitle, Czech and English.
Author – name, titles, institution, e-mail (or website) – in case of multiple authors, attach only one e-mail contact for the main author, a brief professional medallion of the main author (1-2 sentences).
Abstract – 10% of the text of the paper without reference list, in Czech and English, abstracts in English will be professionally proofread. Please also include 5-10 key words in Czech and English. It is not required for informative and other types of papers.
Text of the paper – max. 10 standard pages (i.e. 18,000 characters including spaces, without reference list), if necessary, please consult with the editors. The text must be clearly structured: introduction, theory, experimental part, results of the solution, discussion, conclusions, notes, references. Annotation and citation of literature and sources (see below for a sample), including a list of materials with characteristics of commercial products mentioned in the paper, or references to suppliers and manufacturers, are an integral part of the reviewed papers.
Formatting of text – use standard text editors, character and paragraph styles with differentiation between headings and subheadings.
Images and graphs– do not include them in the text, but send them separately, with an attached word document with captions, or with a layout of the location of the images. In electronic form, suitable formats for images are TIFF or JPEG with the least compression (at maximum quality), or at a suitable resolution for printing (preferably 300 dpi at the desired image size); it is preferable to send photos in their original form, without user editing and resaving. Please attach a maximum of 8 colour images to your submission. Number the images in the same way as the captions and links to the images in the text. Captions for the images should be in proportion to the text, and include the source or owner of the image and its author. Give captions in English and Czech. It is the author’s responsibility to secure reproduction rights for the use of the images; any reproduction fees for the use of the image are the responsibility of the author. Images can also be sent as printed materials – high quality photographs, reproductions, etc., we will arrange for their digitization ourselves and return all materials in good order. We do not recommend using images downloaded from the internet under any circumstances!
Tables – should preferably be sent as a separate word document as plain text separated by tabs, just indicate the layout of each table in the paper; more complex tables can be provided as an attachment in a spreadsheet editor (e.g. Microsoft Excel). Attach a maximum of 5 tables to the paper.
Footnotes and explanatory notes – do not use the same function in the word processor, but include them at the end of the paper (after the Conclusion, before the Inventory of References and Sources); indicate the number of the note in the text by superscript.
References to literature – in the text, put in square brackets with the author’s surname, year of publication; if you want to refer to more than one item of literature, separate them with semicolons, e.g. [Van der Vet – Mars, 1999; Knotek, 1998].
Inventory of literature and sources used – consistently compile bibliographic citations according to the attached template, which has been prepared based on ISO 690. The DOI identifier is included in the citation.
